Important: Print drilling templates at exactly 100% scale (no fit-to-page). The template must be true size for accurate hole placement. Use masking tape to attach it; avoid strong adhesives that could mark the paint.

Step-by-Step

Installation in 7 steps

From template to tightened screw. Follow the video alongside these steps in order for a clean, professional result.

STEP 01 / 07

Print the Template

Print the drilling template at 100% scale. It marks the exact hole positions. Select the template that matches your scooter model.

STEP 02 / 07

Position the Template

Attach the template to the steering column with masking tape in the position shown in the video. Avoid strong adhesives that could damage the paint.

STEP 03 / 07

Drill Pilot Holes

Using a 3 mm drill bit, drill both holes through the marked positions. Pilot holes prevent damage to the plastic cover during enlargement.

STEP 04 / 07

Enlarge the Holes

Progressively enlarge with an 8 mm bit, then finish with a 13 mm bit, the final required diameter. Work slowly with steady, even pressure.

STEP 05 / 07

Find the Internal Thread

As the 13 mm bit passes through the cover, you will feel the internal screw thread. This is where the basket fixation screw will be fastened.

STEP 06 / 07

Clean the Edges

Use a deburring tool or small file to smooth the edges of both drilled holes. This gives a clean finish and protects against chipping over time.

STEP 07 / 07

Install the Basket

Insert and tighten the basket fixation screw into the threaded hole using a screwdriver or wrench. Your basket is now securely mounted.

Before You Start

Tools required

Gather everything on this list before you begin. Having all tools ready makes the installation smooth and safe.

  • Printed drilling template (at 100% scale)
  • Soft masking tape
  • Electric drill (high-speed recommended)
  • 3 mm drill bit (pilot holes)
  • 8 mm drill bit (intermediate enlargement)
  • 13 mm drill bit (final diameter)
  • Deburring tool or small file
  • Screwdriver or wrench (fixation screw)

Safety first. Switch off the scooter and park it on a stable, flat surface before starting. This installation requires basic DIY skills and should be performed by someone comfortable with power tools.

Pro tip. Use new or well-maintained drill bits for clean, accurate cuts. Work slowly with even pressure, especially when approaching the internal thread in Step 5.

Support and FAQ

Answers to the most common questions about installing the scooter shopping basket on your mobility scooter.

No. The basket attaches to an internal threaded post inside the steering column cover. Drilling is required to access this thread; there is no alternative mounting point.

No. This installation is specifically designed to work without removing or disassembling the steering column. You drill through the existing plastic cover from the outside.

Use the template that matches your scooter model. The hole positions differ between models; using the wrong template will result in misaligned holes. Check the model name on your scooter if you are unsure.

Always start with the 3 mm pilot bit. Then enlarge to 8 mm, and finally to 13 mm. Skipping the pilot hole risks cracking or splintering the plastic cover.

When drilling with the 13 mm bit you will feel a distinct change in resistance as the bit passes through the plastic and contacts the metal thread inside. Stop at this point and insert the fixation screw.
